Evaluating Potential Buyers

So you’ve taken the first step to selling your podcast - that’s great news! Selling your show can be the first step in giving it a new life.

But now that you’re starting to get offers from buyers, how do you determine which one is the right one for you?

Keep reading to learn the four questions you should ask when evaluating potential buyers for your podcast.

Who does the buyer want to host?

Believe it or not, but selling your podcast doesn’t have to mean saying goodbye to it forever. Most of the buyers we work with here at The Podcast Broker prefer that the original host stays on to host the show. In turn, the buyer will handle all the work behind the scenes.

When evaluating your potential buyers, it’s important to ask them what their hosting plans are. Do they want you to stay on and host? Do they want to host themselves? Or do they want to find a new host and start fresh?

Whether you plan on staying on as host or not, make sure you tell the buyers about your plans early on in case this influences decision-making.

Does the buyer have the financial backing to purchase your show?

We don’t have to tell you that podcasting can be expensive. If you’ve grown your podcast to a substantial level that it’s attracting buyers, chances are you’ve invested your own money in it.

When talking to potential buyers, be honest and upfront about all the ongoing costs of producing your podcast. This includes fees like editing software, hosting platforms, or content creation tools.

Additionally, ensure they have the financial backing needed to market your show. You’re selling your show because you still want to see it thrive, not burn out because of lack of capital.

Are they acting professionally?

Since podcasting is still so new, there can be a misconception that business arrangements are handled casually.

We encourage you to treat your podcast like your business. To ensure you’ll have the best experience selling your podcast, expect the same level of professionalism from your buyer.

Does the buyer care about your show?

Finally, one of the most important things to ask yourself while evaluating podcast buyers is: Do they care?

You’ve built something great, and even after you’ve sold it, you want to know that the new owner will invest in growing your creation and potentially taking it to the next level. To set your show up for success with its new buyers, ensure they care about the show and community as you do.

Selling your podcast marks a significant milestone in its journey. As you navigate offers from potential buyers, use these questions to help guide you to determine which one is best for you. By asking these critical questions and ensuring alignment with your vision, you can confidently choose a buyer who not only values your creation but also nurtures its future success.
